Australia :
To me, it is unclear whether street robberies are racially motivated attacks or simple thievery where the most-probably-asset-carrying riches have been targeted.

In Brooklin, NY, and robbed. Courtesy of Internet.
However, one could find it hard to quarrel with Dr Gurdip Aurora ‘s (president of the Australia India Society of Victoria) opinion “it was disgraceful that police were asking Indians to “change their profile from high to low”. It was Victoria Police’s job to keep the streets safe for everyone”.
As well as it is a very task of local police forces round a globe to keep the streets safe for everyone in slums of India or wherever.

Get with the times Anna, the colonial arrangement your suggesting is out of date by only a century or two,
Australias largest trading partner is China, second Japan.
I can assure you that my country is definately not anti semitic and you would be more informed if you knew that the photo doesnt match the article....about the police and the Indians...not the Jews but I suppose it doesnt matter.
Its about racism in general, all I can say is Australia is very multicultural, theres racist people still like everywhere they are the ignorant minority - but my opinion is that the article is saying police caution people not to display their affluence and personal belongings in public, which is a silly thing for police to say as they should be saying .......something like we will make the streets safer for people.
This is a problem with vandalism and robbery ...not racism.
I dont know about the porno thats getting too abstract is it something cryptic i dont get it whats SALO ??!?!!

Anaeline i think you need to be more informed about australia before making clumsy critisisms that are innacurate, although they may have some basis; all i ask is you to gain a comprehensive understanding of issues and realities before making accusations that although well intentioned might not be well based thats all.
For your infomation 1/4 of all australians were not born here but arrived via immigration - that means 1 in 4 australians alive immigrated here. And immigration has been strong in times past.
check australian bureau of statistics website for info.
Australian cities are very polyglot and cosmopolitan. Were you to walk down any city street in Austalia you would see that your concept of Australia still being a white anglo saxon offshoot is absurd - as you would see that every creed and religion and race abides here and in fact you might be hard pressed to spot a lilly white pasty anglo saxon old fashioned genotype such as myself!
Thats not to say that there arnt racial inequalities and you are right, but this inequality is experienced by Aboriginal Australians - not by immigrants - who have education or wealth to thrive in our economy.
Immigrants do well here trust me, if you come and visit you can see. They run bussinesses are elected in politics and attain great opportunities!
The Aboriginal people are the ones who suffer inter generational poverty because of European invasion/colonisation left them landless and penniless and undereducated and it perpetuates generation after generation.
Its shameful what hapened to these people, attitudes are not racist anymore its anachronistic and untrue; maybe my grandparents time they were racist but we all australians must work together to help indigenous people attain finacial and education and reconciliation and restitution.
Our history carries a lot of shameful acts but we aknowledge them its important - like other countries- and hopefully we can progress as a country that can reconcile its past with a good future for all its people, and we will im sure. I hope so.
Have a god day.

I read the article and it makes some good points, but if i may put the howard government in some context....He was popular as a hardnosed politician who would clean up welfare/unemployment, fix the economy, abolish australian debt and stop illegal immigration which killed people who were being trafficked in shipping containers etc, and other such hard nosed ”no nonesense” solutions....he was elected for these reasons.
But he took his popularity for granted, and belligerently ignored what the majority population wanted on issues like - Iraq war....David hicks ......environmental policy of climate change......and especially abolishing workers pay conditions. And for some of the reasons Kerjman outlined in his article when the election came he lost because most aussies were angry over iraq war.... david hicks etc, but Howard wasnt voted in for these reasons he was voted out for them.
Also Australians felt very offended when bali bombing occured and fear of terrorism which helped him with popularity, as being a tough guy act.
As for alliance links with US britian and west in general its true our interests lie with these countries as we are a very tiny population in a big land mass with a lot of wealth and therefore very vulnerable to attack so we need strong alliances with US

However, a question is of Kerjman, not about pro-Nazi ex-PM J.Howard and his social-liberal cronies.
I cann’t find a link from Adelaide’s The Advertiser of 28th February: ”SA Police hit by fall in British recruits”, telling much of opportunities for non-Anglo in this England’s colony.
And what about foreign ownership of Australian resources and jobs?
Perhaps, xenophobia is an institutial ground of Australia as too many locals more and more dare stress of.

I think another problem can be violence purpetrated against tourists who visit Australian cities, and naively think australia is a relatively safe place to walk around at night, or some places but it isnt - in some places there is a lot of crime.....I know i wouldnt walk around at night, in some spots.
Willy there is huge foreign investment here what are you talking about !??
Have any of you experienced racism here?
im sorry to hear that if you have ......maybe its more dificult for me to see my country from an outside view because i am a citizen, but im really surprised that people had such a terrible time from experiencing racism here...thats quite dissapointing for me to hear :(
but sincerely i think most australian people arnt racist and usually are cosmopolitan travellers and are from very diverse immigrant backgrounds.
Another thing that you might be overlooking with some ethnic based racism in australia aside from the general population who some might harbour racism, is - inter-ethnic tensions, for example some attacks against people are for reasons of conflict in the world that immigrants carry from their native lands, eg east orthodox christians churches and muslims or synagogues can be vandalised by traditional resentments of rival ethnic peoples carrying out conflicts they had in their traditional homelands in australia, for eg fights have broken out on football fields from teams comprised from people who lived in countries from the balkans war, and from other world conflict zones, and i know synagogues have been targeted in similiar situations too ...so all im saying is sometimes its not always clear cut and sometimes it could be complex things too. by guys, gotta stop racism i agree!! i gotta preach a stop racism to australian people more!!

Thank you, folks, for discussing this publication reflecting media concern of a dramatically increasing street crime in Australia.
An article’s reason was not putting ”shame on the police and our politicians” as Steven Gary had his feelings expressed: to an ancient common belief, healthy people are to a great extent what a society-reflecting educating from their very birth made them.
Eventually, it is not a point to divert from a topic mentioned above into jungles of ownerships in Australia if even distantly related, as enough space exists in INSTABLOGS for variety of issues to highlight.

The problem with drugs is a very bad problem now (heroin and amphetamines) young thugs rob people its getting very dangerous in australian cities.
Ive had people trying to break into my house so i bought a dog...and a bow just to make sure because i knowhow apathetic the court system is.
Some of these young drug addicts are a violent ruthless brood its even been in my own family - someone is on heroine and hes a thug because of it, attacks people always goes to jail.
Shame on the police and our politicians
