NATO was formed to defend the European countries from any USSR aggression. USSR is no more, so why do they need NATO? Is it to dictate the whole world on their terms when no body is there to object?

I think Russia, Georgia and Ukraine should be given membership of NATO. It will provide regional balance to this very important organization.

NATO is no longer a threat for Russia but it's threat for whole world now. We saw the role of NATO in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is a need of parallel block to counter the NATO. Russia should organize the other countries to check the growing NATO hegemony.

As known, the EU arranges own army:
The EU Defence Force = NATO - the USA&Canada + new East European countries.

So, making friend with Russia is a logical US step.
